A contemporary scandinavian chalet with distinctive architecture

This contemporary Scandinavian chalet, featuring a mezzanine, stands out for its elegant architecture, where clean lines meet a design optimized for life amidst nature. Inspired by Nordic design, this 2,145-square-foot model boasts a timeless silhouette defined by a gable roof, modern vertical siding, and expansive front windows that flood the interior with natural light.

Built on a slab foundation, this chalet eliminates the constraints associated with a basement while ensuring efficient construction. Its compact footprint—48 feet wide by 40 feet deep—maximizes every square foot of living space and allows it to blend harmoniously into wooded, mountainous, or lakeside settings.

The absence of a garage prioritizes living areas and creates a building with a sleek aesthetic, true to the principles of contemporary Scandinavian architecture.

A functional ground floor designed for family life

The ground floor is designed to ensure fluid movement between the various living zones. Upon entering, occupants are greeted by a spacious open-concept area that combines the living room, dining room, and kitchen.

The kitchen features a generous central island, offering ample prep space and plenty of integrated storage. It connects directly to the dining area—perfect for hosting family and friends—while the living room boasts a cathedral ceiling that enhances the sense of spaciousness. A wood-burning stove adds a cozy touch, perfectly complementing the atmosphere desired in a four-season chalet.

A three-season sunroom naturally extends the living space outdoors, allowing residents to fully enjoy the scenery while remaining sheltered from the elements. The ground floor also features three bedrooms, including a spacious master suite with a walk-in closet and private bathroom. A second full bathroom—equipped with a freestanding tub, separate shower, and double vanity—serves the needs of family and guests. A third bathroom, located near the staircase, adds further functionality to the layout.

The room layout is designed to accommodate both occasional visits and full-time living.

A versatile mezzanine open to the living area

One of the main highlights of this contemporary Scandinavian-style chalet is undoubtedly its open upper level.

Accessible via a central staircase, the mezzanine overlooks the living room through a large opening beneath the cathedral ceiling. This configuration creates a unique visual connection between the two levels while allowing abundant light from the spectacular glass façade to flow through the space.

Currently set up as a spacious game room, the mezzanine can easily be adapted to the owner's needs—whether as an office, reading nook, family room, artist's studio, or even a home gym.

This flexibility allows the building to evolve over the years without requiring major renovations.

Architecture inspired by the Nordic lifestyle

This model showcases all the hallmarks of the Scandinavian style: simple forms, a steep roofline, understated materials, expansive windows, and light-filled interiors.

The large triangular windows on the main façade serve as a striking architectural feature while offering exceptional views of the surrounding landscape. Vertical cladding and contemporary colors reinforce the building's modern character without compromising its warm, inviting feel.

With its slab-on-grade foundation, optimized layout, and absence of a basement, this chalet is an ideal choice for flat or lightly wooded lots. A cottage plan designed by architectural technologists
