A rustic-style detached garage with an upper level
This plan for a rustic, detached, two-story garage offers a functional architectural design that combines parking space, an expansive upper-level storage area, and a covered outdoor shelter. Measuring 20 feet wide by 24 feet deep, this 860-square-foot building stands out for its rustic aesthetic, warm materials, and versatile layout.
Its gray horizontal exterior siding, red metal roof, and white trim create a harmonious composition inspired by traditional country buildings. The gable roof—featuring characteristic changes in pitch—provides a distinctive architectural signature while maximizing the interior volume available on the upper level.
A single-car garage with a ground-floor bathroom
The ground floor houses a single-car garage designed to accommodate one vehicle while maintaining practical circulation space. The main area measures approximately 18 feet 10 inches by 17 feet 6 inches, offering a layout well-suited to everyday needs.
A full bathroom, measuring 10 feet by 5 feet 7 inches, is located at the rear of the building. It includes a shower, a toilet, and a sink—a convenient feature for those working or spending time in the garage.
An interior staircase provides direct access to the upper level, allowing for easy movement between the two floors without needing to step outside.
The structure is built on a slab-on-grade foundation (with no basement), a solution well-suited to the design of this detached garage.
A spacious upper level dedicated entirely to storage
One of the primary advantages of this two-story rustic garage is its upper level, which is designed as a dedicated storage space. Measuring approximately 18 feet 10 inches by 22 feet 10 inches, this room is ideal for organizing seasonal gear, tools, recreational equipment, and various household items.
Unlike an open mezzanine, this level functions as a true, separate floor, accessible via an interior staircase.
An exterior door also provides access to a small, raised patio measuring 11 feet 4 inches by 6 feet 6 inches. This area connects to the ground level via an outdoor wooden staircase, offering a convenient secondary entrance to the upper floor.
A covered side shelter for added versatility
This detached garage plan also includes a 10-foot by 24-foot outdoor shelter, positioned along the side of the building.
Protected by an extension of the roof and supported by wooden posts, this covered space can accommodate outdoor gear, gardening equipment, or any items that require protection from the elements.
Its architectural integration ensures a cohesive appearance while expanding the building’s potential uses.
Exposed posts and natural wood elements enhance the structure’s rustic, country-style character.
Rustic architecture with contemporary details
The aesthetic of this garage strikes a balance between traditional lines and modern elements.
A glazed garage door adds a contemporary touch to the main façade, while windows allow for natural light to fill the interior spaces.
The red metal roof, roof overhangs, and wooden railings contribute to a warm, distinctive silhouette.
This country-style detached garage—complete with an upper floor—is an excellent solution for homeowners looking to combine parking, extra storage, and covered outdoor space within an independent building that boasts a strong, rustic character.
