Small country house plan: A warm and functional home

Discover a small country house plan designed for those seeking a comfortable and practical retreat imbued with the rustic charm typical of country homes. With 985 sq ft spread over two floors, this small farmhouse/rustic-style cottage offers a perfect balance between architectural simplicity, efficient use of space, and a warm atmosphere. Its design appeals to nature lovers as well as homeowners desiring a second home or a versatile annex.

Farmhouse architecture inspired by nature

With its compact silhouette, light-colored cladding, steeply pitched roof, and clean lines, this small house embraces a modern farmhouse style while retaining the rustic spirit of traditional construction. The exterior staircase leading to the upper floor adds a unique character to the building while allowing for functional circulation between levels. This simple yet elegant design blends naturally into wooded areas, rural lots, or open spaces along rivers or lakes.

Its dimensions of 20' wide by 30' deep make it an ideal solution for narrower lots or projects requiring a smaller footprint. Thanks to its slab foundation, the construction remains durable, economical, and perfectly suited to the needs of a small, four-season cottage.

A welcoming and perfectly optimized main floor

The main floor offers a spacious open-concept living area encompassing the living room, dining room, and kitchen. This layout creates a bright and inviting living space, ideal for entertaining family and friends. The fireplace or wood stove shown in the 3D renderings adds a warm touch typical of country homes.

It also features a full bathroom, cleverly designed with a stacked washer and dryer, as well as a separate utility room for technical installations. The interior spiral staircase maximizes floor space while adding character to the house.

This level is designed to meet all essential daily needs with smooth circulation and intelligent use of space.

Two comfortable upstairs bedrooms

The second floor features two generously sized bedrooms, each approximately 15' x 25', located on either side of the spiral staircase. These rooms offer a wealth of potential uses: family rooms, guest rooms, an office, a relaxation area, or even a vacation rental.

The increased height thanks to the rounded, barn-style roof creates surprisingly spacious areas for a house of this size. Although this house has neither a loft nor a basement, the upper floor fully maximizes the living space while ensuring privacy and comfort.

A versatile and sustainable small cottage

This small country house plan stands out for its efficiency, timeless charm, and versatility. Whether for a vacation home, a small rental cottage, a creative studio, or a family retreat, this design accommodates a variety of uses while maintaining a compact footprint and distinctive architectural style.

Every element of the design has been carefully considered to offer a welcoming, easy-to-maintain, and sustainable space, while respecting the current expectations of homeowners seeking a simple lifestyle close to nature and optimized for comfort.

A perfect choice for an accessible and inviting project

If you are looking for a small, functional, and aesthetically pleasing house perfectly suited to rural environments, this model is an ideal option. Its two-story layout, two spacious bedrooms, and open-plan living area make it a complete solution for those who wish to enjoy rustic elegance in a compact format.
