How to estimate the costs of a renovation project

You've probably been in a position to wonder how much certain renovations might cost. In the same vein, haven't you all already requested a quote for work to be done? It goes without saying that with the now almost innumerable quantity of TV shows dedicated to decoration and building renovation, we are more and more exposed to the notion of renovation cost. How much does it cost to renovate a kitchen, carry out expansion work, refurbish a restaurant, or even repair a beef belly on the wall of a rental building? From the outset, there is no method that makes it possible to determine an exact price without first having accurately estimated all of the work to be performed. The method of estimating the cost per square foot must be combined with the full cost method to allow an accurate estimate of the costs of a project. Let us see the difference between these two methods.

THE COST PER SQUARE FOOT METHOD (OR LINEAR FOOT OR CUBIC FOOT…) The cost per square foot method is widely used to estimate the costs of a renovation project. Although some general or specialized contractors say they can estimate everything with cost per square foot scales, certain reservations must be highlighted. The number of square feet to be done is effectively indirectly proportional to the cost per square foot for said work. In other words, as the number of square feet increases for a given job, the cost per square foot will tend to decrease. We must therefore be wary of estimating the costs for a project too quickly and ask ourselves if the quantity of work to be done is representative of the price/ft2 selected for the project cost estimate. Finally, the cost per square foot method consists of taking all the measurements of a project and translating them into work surfaces to be produced. Once the quantities of ft2, linear feet and ft3 have been identified for the project, all that remains is to multiply each number by the price per ft2, linear foot and ft3 of the work to be done. Finally, it should be noted that the calculation method per square foot is generally only used to provide a quick approximation of the real costs of a project. In fact, only an expert accustomed to carrying out projects very similar to the one you want to carry out will be able to use this method adequately, and, if necessary, to make all the necessary adjustments to it to be relatively precise. THE FULL COST METHOD The full cost method requires a good knowledge of building estimation. Since this method represents the identification of all the business tasks to be carried out as well as all the materials required for the realization of the said tasks, it goes without saying that it is necessary to know renovation and construction well to be able to apply this method. Now, just like the method for estimating costs per square foot, only an experienced estimator will be able to use this method properly. Lack of experience will often cause omissions and oversights that will be costly when carrying out the work. Published by Boxcom Source: www.avant-plus.com house construction cost
